   Good songwriting can immortalize anything, in this case, something very painful. I listen to this once in a blue moon. I see this song in my collection and it haunts me because its a reminder that I can either turn to this song to ease the pain or go to something else that eases the pain in a damaging way.

    It took me awhile to figure this out, but now it seems so obvious. This song is just as much about animosity as it is about depression. The verses are genuine and from his point of view it would seem…but the hook is very different and full of almost a disgust that you can really hear in this version; unlike the PHM version where the hook is very gently sung. Anyway, the hook is almost certainly angry & from the POV of the girl, starting with “You make this…” and ending with “…never have.”
